Kerry Stokes’s leadership of the Seven Network caps off four decades of remarkable achievement in his involvement in the ownership and management of media companies in Australia.
Today, Seven Network Limited’s joint venture Seven Media Group is recognised as one of Australia’s leading media companies.
Its broadcast television platform, the Seven Network, reaches 98% of Australians and is Australia’s leading television network in breakfast television, news and public affairs and in primetime. Seven’s magazines publishing business, Pacific Magazines, publishes more than one in five magazines sold in Australia, including three of the biggest selling magazines. Seven Media Group also is actively developing its presence in online and new technologies in the Yahoo!7 joint venture with Yahoo! Inc.
Seven Network Limited is also the major shareholder in West Australian Newspapers (Holdings), of which Kerry is Chairman.
With a deep interest in art, Kerry was a former Chairman of the National Gallery of Australia, a Director of the Western Australian Gallery and, from 1989 to 1991, was Chairman of the Western Australian Art Gallery Foundation.
Recognised as an honorary fellow of Murdoch University and awarded an honorary doctorate of commerce from Edith Cowan University, Kerry has also been recognised by the Australian Institute of Company Directors for his contribution to economic progress and corporate governance, and his contributions to the community and not-for-profit organisations.
Kerry is the recipient of one of the country’s most prestigious honours - the Order of Australia. More recently, in 2008, he was awarded the highest honour in the country, as a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Kerry is also a Council Member of the Australian War Memorial, as well as an international member for the Paley Centre for Media (formerly the Museum of Radio & Television New York), a life member of Variety Australia and a Member for the International Council of the Louvre in Paris.
